Today I had the pleasure of reading the chapter “Ideias teóricas em circulação entre França e Brasil: a análise do discurso de M. Pêcheux e E. Orlandi” (Theoretical ideas circulating between France and Brazil: the discourse analysis of M. Pêcheux and E. Orlandi), by professors Bethania Mariani and Silmara Silva, both of the Fluminense Federal University (UFF). It was published in the book Diálogos França-Brasil in 2019. The book brings together various studies, but the text by Bethania and Silmara caught my interest because of its methodological affinity with my work. It offers a rich historical and contextual account of the emergence of Discourse Analysis along the lines of Michel Pêcheux and of the appropriations and reconstructions carried out by Eni Orlandi, which allow us to speak today of a Brazilian Discourse Analysis. It is a valuable read. I had the opportunity to study with Bethania, and her theoretical command of discourse analysis and the fluency of her argument are always a pleasure.
