Today I read the text “A história e a epistemologia no ensino de ciências: dos processos aos modelos de realidade na educação científica” (History and epistemology in science teaching: from processes to models of reality in science education), by Maurício Pietrocola de Oliveira, of the Department of Physics, Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). It reflects on the convergence between studies in the History of Science and the Epistemology of Science and the teaching practice of science education. The text makes arguments that open space for deeper reflection on scientific activity. It questions some myths and stereotypes about science and scientific work that are often presented in classrooms as definitive truths, stressing the importance of the epistemological and contextual foundations that run through the development of scientific knowledge and its human dimension, as a construction arising from questions, doubts and the desire to understand the world.
The text was published in the book A ciência em perspectiva – Estudos, ensaios e debates, edited by Ana Maria Ribeiro de Andrade, and could be accessed (at the time this post was published) at: https://edisciplinas.usp.br/pluginfile.php/3438126/mod_resource/content/1/Mesa%20redonda%20SBH%20vf%20c%C3%B3pia.pdf
